Questions To Ask Before Hiring a Videographer for Your Wedding – Part 3

by | May 1, 2015

In the previous articles, I have covered the variety of options that are available today in the wedding industry from videographers. In this article, I will present the offerings from Video Adventures and discuss how they fit into the various styles and options discussed previously.

We currently offer two basic style of wedding film production: Documentary Style and Cinematic Style.

Documentary Style wedding films are shot with one camera, single point of view in the most part. They are simple edits in a documentary style that cover the entire ceremony or the entire ceremony and reception. They are less expensive than our Cinematic Style packages but provide complete coverage of what you request in your wedding film.

Cinematic Style wedding films are a bit more involved in that we will use 2 to 3 cameras for the ceremony and usually 2 during the reception. We shoot to edit like a motion picture so the editing is a huge process and can take over 40 hours to edit in some cases. But the end results are comparable to watching your favorite Hollywood film.

Both styles can be full-form or short-form or even both.

We currently have several set packages of each style but always let you know that we can customize any package to fit your needs. And we have a long list of video Enhancements you can add to expand your wedding film experience. Such as: Wedding Invitation Video, The Wedding Love Story, Save the Date, the Wedding Music Video, the Highlight Reel just to name a few. Check out on our website for more information.

Video Delivery

Years ago, there was one way to deliver your video, and that was a VHS tape. Things have changed significantly over the years. Along with DVDs, we now can deliver on Blu-ray discs, Flash Drives, to YouTube, iTunes downloads, live internet streaming and others. And there’s little risk involved in guaranteeing a prediction that there will be a completely new and different format in a few years. How will you want your wedding film delivered? Most videographers will produce DVDs. But is that all you will need? DVDs cannot reproduce the full quality of a film that was filmed in high definition. Even playing a video on a computer screen will provide higher quality than a basic DVD.

Needs may vary for delivery of the video. Many couples need, for example, a Blu-ray disc for themselves, DVDs for their parents, online videos for their friends, and videos they can load onto their mobile device to carry with them. Other couples have out-of-town relatives or friends that are unable to attend the wedding, due to travel or health issues, and would like them to be able to watch their wedding as it happens, live stream over the internet is an answer.

Video Adventures has a wide range of offerings to handle just about every requirement for delivering your video. Since we always shoot in high definition, we can deliver on DVDs and Blu-ray discs. We can host your entire video on our servers for your out-of-town friends and family to view. We can load your wedding on your iPad, iPhone etc. And if you want your friends and family that could not attend your wedding to watch it live, we also offer live internet streaming of your ceremony.

Choosing a Videographer for Your Wedding

As you research videographers to find the right one to film your wedding, you will likely discover that videographers vary greatly in many areas. Here is a summary of the questions we believe you should ask any videographer you are considering.

What is the style and length of the finished product?

Can you adjust content of their published packages to better meet your specific needs?

How many videographers do they have available for filming?

How many weddings have they filmed? Experience does matter.

Do they have appropriate camera equipment to be able to film long events such as the entire ceremony?

How many cameras will be used for filming the ceremony?

Do they have wireless audio equipment to capture the vows?

Do they have additional audio equipment to capture the readers, soloists and musicians?

Are they well-known and respected in the wedding industry?

Are they willing to give you multiple references from recent weddings that you can contact?

Are they on preferred vendor lists at respected wedding venues?

Do other wedding vendors, such as photographers, refer them?

How much will the video cost?

I put “How much will the video cost?” as the last question because you really shouldn’t be judging your wedding film based on just the price. Cost is important to you but as history has shown us, your wedding film will soon become a treasured family heirloom that is absolutely priceless. And how much are your once-in-a-lifetime experiences really worth?

Video Adventures has been in business for over 25 years and has filmed 100’s of weddings. We have received numerous awards over the years. We are on preferred vendor lists at many venues around the Temecula Valley and throughout Southern California and regularly receive referrals from photographers, DJs and florists as well as from the venues.

We would love to have the privilege of filming your wedding and producing a film that you, your children, your grandchildren, your great-grandchildren will treasure as family history. Contact us here and schedule an appointment with us to talk about your unique, once-in-a-lifetime wedding film.
