It seems to be the rage around Hollywood and local movie theaters: Movies in 3D! But is it really worth it? Is it worth paying an extra $2 or $3 per movie ticket? What does it really get you: just the experience?

3D movies have been around since the 50’s. Though the viewing process has improved slightly over the years from those cheesy colored paper glasses to the new electronic shutter ones, it’s still just a gimmick. They are trying to add depth-of-field to an otherwise flat 2D image on the screen. It doesn’t add to the story the movie is trying to show you. It actually distracts the viewer from the story. We all see 3D everyday in our normal lives. So trying to make that flat 2D image on screen look like “real life” 3D, it just looks unnatural.

To be able to “see” 3D in the movies or at home, at its very best, the viewer must have perfect vision in both eyes; or at least the same vision in both. If one eye is slightly stronger than the other, the 3D image won’t look right. You’ll be able to “see” the effect to a certain degree, but the overall image will be slightly out of focus to downright blurry. And if you normally wear glasses, that just added to the distraction of the whole experience. There have also been reports that some viewers are experiencing the “Blair Witch Project” motion sickness after watching a movie in 3D.

As you can tell, I’m not a fan of movies in 3D. Not just because I do not have the same vision in both eyes, but because I think Hollywood is trying to shove 3D down our throats to make more money at the box office. I’ll always bypass the 3D version and watch the good old standard 2D versions and enjoy the “story”.

Now enter 3DTV. Truth is, there is no 3D programming on air at the time. Yet, most of the electronic companies are starting to sell 3DTVs and 3D DVD players to view the dozen or so 3D DVD movies out there at this time. But wait. You want to watch 3D DVD movies in your home? Well, you gotta buy a new 3D DVD player and a new 3D-HDTV. And don’t forget, you’ll need those electronic glasses for each viewer; at an extra cost of $150 each. Some of the other problems you might experience with these new glasses is a “flickering” effect because the electronic shutters in the 3D glasses are opening and closing at a very high rate of speed to allow you to see the on-screen image in 3D. I just read a report that states over the next 5 years, 3DTVs will only be in about 5% of US homes.

I have experienced watching 3DTV. I must say I was impressed at the quality of the images and the 3D effect. Except the 3D images were flat and one dimensional. While the on screen image had the viewer flying through mountain ranges, the mountains (as they got closer to the viewer and passed by) looked just like a cardboard cutout; a flat image. No dimension to it. (I get a better effect on Google Earth). True, a nice clear picture, but flat 3D effects. And if you don’t have the glasses… forget about it.

In comparison, I watched one of these new 60” LCD HDTVs that was about ¾” thick and the image was absolutely amazing….100% better than the 3D image. It’s looked as real as possible. I have HDTV and know how sharp and clear HD can be from actual live broadcasts as well as “pre-taped” programs in HD. This picture was amazing. But keep in mind, when you’re at your local Best Buy or other such store, the images they have playing on all their showroom monitors are coming from a very high end digital source.

So, until the day 3DTV can produce a true 3D image, without the need for special glasses and actually produce a sharp image without distracting from the story, I’ll have to pass. I’ll just stick with my HDTV and Blu-ray disks, and 2D theater viewing, thank you very much.

Groucho Marx used to say he wouldn’t join a club that would have him as a member. I used to think the same way. But that all changed back in 1998. Now I belong to several clubs, networking associations, like ABC, WEVA, BNI and local Chambers. One such group is the IVBCF; Inland Valley Business and Community Foundation.

The Inland Valley Business and Community Foundation, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to serving the community by providing a valuable service. Their members enjoy all the perks of the organization. The organization has been widely-recognized as the best of its kind. The membership is growing at a steady pace. With this growth, they have been able to accomplish more, and have a larger impact upon the community. They put on several fund raising events each year. And speaking from experience, they will welcome you with open arms. Inquire about how you can become a part of their growing membership. They are always looking for community-based volunteers as well. Volunteers aid the community in various ways.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So, this week we are Spotlighting one of our favorite wedding photographers, Braja Mandala. If you are a bride, she wants to give you your 15 minutes of fame. Well, actually your entire Wedding Day! For that one day, you will be photographed like a movie star. She would love the opportunity to document every special person in your life and the connects you have. Braja says, “I have a passion for wedding photography. You’re in love and full of life. So getting the shot will be easy. After all, the two of you just click!”. She loves to take walks on the beach in her high heels. (I’m not sure how that works). But more important, she’d love to hear about your wedding day and possibly become your wedding photographer.

It’s always nice to shoot Wedding Video’s with great wedding photographers like Braja. When the bride hires both a professional Wedding Videographer and Wedding Photographer who work together, she’s going to receive the absolute best Wedding Video and Photos of her wedding day. And these are the two treasures that she and her husband will cherish forever!

In a recent survey, 400 corporations were asked about Digital Marketing Campaigns for their companies. The results showed 67% were already starting online video campaigns and 42% said they also planned to include Social Media. 77% said online video would be very important in growing their businesses. Here at Video Adventures, we are producing more and more Video Blogs for local businesses. Video Blogs are the same as your normal blogs, except they are a growing series of short videos on a blog page. These same videos are also being posted on YouTube, Facebook and the like, as well as websites. This is one of the most powerful tools to get your message out, promote your products and services, and educate your clients and prospects. The creative Video Blogs we are currently producing are just that, plus they are entertaining.

So, it’s my goal to capture your viewing audience’s attention within the first 5 seconds and then keep them interested while you present your message to them.

Anybody can set up a camera and make a video for YouTube and their website. I’ve seen plenty of these types of videos and many of them leave a less than impressive image of the company presented. So what does that say about their business? On the other hand, a professionally produced video for your Video Blog, that is creative and entertaining, draws your viewer into your message and shows you as the expert in your field. That’s very powerful. That’s where we come in. We want to make you look and sound as professional as you and your business are. We want to produce Video Blogs that work for you!

Here is the latest Video Blog we just posted for one of our clients, Wine and Jazz Magazine.

Do you ever go to a school production or a dance studio recital to watch and support a family member or friend? Ever notice all the parents trying to hold their little handy-cams trying to capture the moment? Can you imagine the image and sound quality they are getting? And while they are trying to hold the camera as steady as they can and keep it somewhat framed and in focus, they are actually missing the performance and not truly enjoying the moment. My advice: leave the camera home, enjoy the show and spend a few bucks on a professionally produced video. That’s where we come in.

Video Adventures has several yearly theatrical clients who know the value of having a professionally produced video of their staged productions. They know that over the years we have provided them a high end, multi-camera production, delivered on DVD, that is creative and far beyond their expectations. With exceptional images and sound, as well as packaging, they know the true value of what a professionally produced video from Video Adventures can be.

We are always looking for theatrical production companies who would truly enjoy a high level of creative video production that we offer.

Here is a Video Testimonial from one such client, Dr. Roger Minkle.

On Valentine’s Day while most people were thinking about romance, candy and flowers, we spent most of the day shooting the St. Bartholomew Chapel Dedication Services on the Rincon Indian Reservation in San Diego County. The original chapel was destroyed in the Oct. 2007 wildfire. The Chapel was rebuilt and reborn on February 14th 2010 with about 200 parishioners and guests attending. It was a two-camera shoot for the 2 hour dedication service with many interviews afterwards from everyone involved in the reconstruction and from the community.

After the fire.

The new Chapel.

This is one amazing piece of architecture with a precision designed ceiling for optimum acoustics. The Chapel is part of the Southwest environment with reinforced rammed earth walls. This allows for better insulation in the often hot, arid climate. The chapel is highly, fire resistant, understandably. From the recycled metal and steel to the drought resistant landscaping, the chapel is part of the land from which it was reborn. All these elements (and more) make this worship center a distinctive part of the Rincon Reservation.

We were honored to be a part of the history, dedication and documentation of St. Bartholomew’s Chapel which will be featured in the video.

Now, who took my box of chocolates?
